ODSPELL'S
inspiring story line, rocking songs, hilarious skits and vigorous
dance numbers -- not to mention the show's participation-friendly
ensemble nature -- add up to a unique theatrical experience. Only
one thing may hold directors back, and that's Godspell's unusually
open-ended libretto.
Granted, the scope for innovation and improvisation is part
of this show's charm. Still, clarification of the oral tradition
is needed or directors are likely to flounder with the infrequent
and sometimes imprecise stage directions.
SPOTLIGHT ON GODSPELL addresses this problem by offering 70 pages
of detailed suggestions based largely on John-Michael Tebelak's
original Broadway production.
“Your book is really wonderful. Without it in hand
I would have forgotten so many of the little tricks that can
be used to make this show fly.”
